Elizabeth Smith is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she double majored in Journalism and Radio, Television and Film.
During her time at UT, Elizabeth worked in the news department of Texas Student Television, the only student-run, FCC-licensed, digitally broadcasting college television station in the country. She is currently the News Director of the department, and previously worked as the executive producer for Good Morning Texas and Texas News Channel.
In November 2019, Elizabeth interviewed "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon when he came to visit UT Austin. Elizabeth created an original segment called the “Texpert Test,” which tested Jimmy’s Texas knowledge, specifically for his visit. While not at Professor Matthew McConaughey’s level of expertise, Jimmy passed the test with flying colors and is officially an honorary Texan—an occasion marked by presenting him with a $6.99 novelty Texas-shaped pin which he wore on-air.
Elizabeth is trained in all aspects of media production, from broadcast news, to daytime television, scripted web series, digital content and more. Most recently, Elizabeth interned at CBS News in New York, where cultivated her writing and video skills with top network producers, talent and executives.
Beyond her digital and video skills, Elizabeth is a skilled writer and editor, having worked as a writing coach at the Moody Writing Support Program for over three years. As a coach, Elizabeth assisted communications student at the University of Texas at Austin in brainstorming, developing and revising a variety of works including news stories, papers, press releases, dissertations and other academic materials.
Elizabeth aspires to work as a creative producer, and use her skills to create entertaining, multi-platform content. When she’s not working on her latest video project, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her friends and family, watching sitcoms, and eating gluten-free oatmeal raisin cookies.
